Hi

My brakes are quite hard at low revs (mk 2 diesel galaxy 115bhp) and from a search it looks like it could be a split in the vacuum pipebetween the pump and the srevo. Stupid question, can anyone advise where the vacuum pump is and also the servo? had a quick look with a torch and found a plastic dome on the front of the engine with a vacuum pipe going to behind the air filter near the fluid reservoir but don't think this is it. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

Just an update on this one. Fitted the new pipe today and sure enough the pipe was cracked where it goes into the none return valve (both sides gone) Fitting the new one resuted in a flat nose as when I got to the end of the street on the test drive and applied the brakes, I nearly went through the screen. Just shows how you don't spot deteriation over a period of time. For a quick tempory fix you could wrap rubber amalagmating tape around the pipe, the none return valve is situated about 6" to the left of the fuel filter, it has two take offs coming out, one with a tube and one blanked off. Ford part number for a mk2 diesel vacuum pipe is 1357764

I was just about to start searching for a fault like this one.

After braking, when the pedal is released there is quite a bit of hissing. Even more under load - when the vacuum, increases.

Eventually it stops, but it certainly is something that started happening in the last few weeks.

Before I run off to the dealer's and start stripping down the car - can anyone tell me if this is a good first resort?

Thanks.

Hi Sniper

Locate the none return valve and see if the pipe slips on and off it. If it does it is definately cracked. A new vacuum pump is
